bumper paint codes

Forum:

any one know what the paint code is for a 97 fourtrak bumpers

Coloured

If the bumpers are the same colour as the bodywork, you will need the paint code from the plate under the bonnet, if not they are a straight colour, usually black.

Most people tend to use paint such as hammerite smooth on black bumpers, this is available in spray cans and gives a durable finish, industrial paint is just as good, but far more expensive.

yes i know the code for the body is 168 (silver like mine ) but the bumpers are a darker silver/grey just wondered if any one knows the code for the bumpers as want to get some paint mixed to paint end cap witch is damaged with out painting them all.

Painted

One of our Daihatsu's was also 168, this also had the darker bumpers, when these wanted touching up i bought a litre of 168, and simply added Nescafe coffee granules to a small quantity of the paint to darken it.
In addition to this, i used a black primer, this also darkens the finished paint colour.
After checking with my local paint supplier, i found that the bumpers came as black or grey from the factory, many were colour coded by the dealers, they often sprayed the body colour straight over the black bumpers, this gives a darker colour than the original body colour, as the body primer used was silver.

If you intend spraying plastic end caps, use a plastic primer first, then add plasticiser to the final paint, this makes it adhere, and the paint becomes more pliable when dried, this allows it to move with the plastic, thus preventing it cracking after a few months. Your paint supplier will be able to supply plasticiser for your chosen paint type.

Mine are plastic grey ones

Mine are plastic grey ones on my 97 fourtrak, so im not sure what to suggest, are your bumbers metal or plastic?

There were a number of paints used including body colour for the metal parts of the bumpers and I should imagine as long as you do the four then the nearest would be ok. I have one Sportrak with the dark met. Grey and the other with Silver. The plastic ends match the bumpers. As for the plastic ends, like most of the plastic bits, these go an odd mixture of light grey to white and none of this "Back to Black" etc works.

If you are contemplating spraying these then you must remove all traces of this type of instant solution liquid first, surface cleaner can be supplied by your paint supplier, then use a good plastic primer before spraying with the colour finish. Someone suggested that using a Hot Air gun carefully brought the colour back. I haven't tried this but it is worth a try. A hair dryer may be safer but not hot enough?

Good Luck
