Site speed and stability. You having issues?

Forum:

In past couple of months I have noticed increase in people mentioning that the site at times seems to run very slow, or fails to load at all. So before start looking into moving the sites hosting to a new company I would like to know what the experience is like for as many people as possible. Has or does the site run slow for you? If so what Web Browser and Operating System is your computer running? Eg, Internet Explorer 7 & Windows XP, Firefox 2.0.11 & CentOS, Safari & OSX 10.5.1. Also what type of Internet Connection you have and who its with.

All this information will determine if it is actually the hosting company or incompatibility between the site and a certain block of users.

Latest Update:
Plans are afoot to solve the speed issue. The site will be moving to a new hosting company! You can now keep track on the latest progress by clicking here. Article is also available on the Front page of the site.

Site issues

Hi LuRcH,

i'm XP explorer6 with Tiscali, but get the same minor problems also at work - NTL.
Viewing - the post runs off to the right side into the topic lists.
When viewing a pic in the gallery it shows up at the bottom of the page and have to scroll down to view.
After entering a reply it sometimes takes ages and never sure if it has sent or not and usualy ends up with a repeated post(s).
Have had the takes ages to connect to the site on several occasions and after logging out i'm still logged on when revisited?
Cheers,
Dave.

IE7, NTL 100Mps BBand, WinDoze XP - same as all the above, R/H panel is all over the shop, gallery extremely problematic and have not been able to load pics on several occasions. You can change the heater matrix and clutch on the Sportrak quicker than the site loads sometimes.

Firefox and this place seemed to have got divorced ages ago.

Issues

Hi Lurch,

Windows XP Professional, using Internet Explorer 7 on Sky, the site sometimes takes ages to load, as do posts or replies.

Other problems are regular freezing of the site, often requiring the reset button to be hit on the computer. Problems seem worse now Sky have undertaken their changeover, often taking an age to do anything on the site.

Pictures and some posts end up at the bottom of the page, and a large number of my posts are automatically blocked and do not appear on the site, although i know you have responded to this particular issue.

Issues ...................

Everything auto updated so all my programs are latest updates. XP and Explorer 7. McAfee checker.

This site often takes up to a minute to load or more likely it freezes. Log on is often impossible since it freezes or that silly ‘identifier’ window with letters/numbers remains blank. If fortunate to log on then replying to a message either freezes or gets lost in the ozone. This is particularly annoying having spent quite some time composing replies. Recently I gave up having lost two compositions.
Direct email to users recently has proven impossible. I think many users told you this fault recently.
The snail pace seems linked to the time the log on asking for ‘letters and numbers’ appeared.

NB .. If this takes more than 20 seconds to send then I will post the time taken. Otherwise assume it worked this time!

Hi LuRcH. Windows XP &

Hi LuRcH.
Windows XP & Explorer 7, via BT Broadband.
The site is significantly slower to load than any other I use regularly, and freezes compleatly about 1 time out of 5 that I use it. Some times of day are better than others.
Most anoying is that if it's going to freez, it's quite offten when trying to post something, or send a PM.
I do have troble from work conection as well, though not as much. That is Windows XP & Explorer 6, via a LAN (not sure who does final connection to net)

Hope that helps.

Any veiws expresed in this thread by me are purely from my own experience, and (sometimes) falible memory. Hope my comments help, but please don't take them as gospel.

Hi Lurch, Windows XP SP2

Hi Lurch,

Windows XP SP2 tried on both IE6 & now 7 and also latest Mozilla Firefox. Have the same issues others face, takes time for the home page to load up, takes a while to go through the forum. Currently on BT Internet 8MB service.

Hope that helps?

Jon.

Hi
same thing as other replies, I have XP with explorer 7 on BT broadband, site is almost always slow to load although I've never had it freeze on me. I have had replies to posts I have spent time writing dissapear when I've tried to post them a few times and was unable to send any private messages for some time although this seems to be fixed now. I also get the thing where images load at the bottom of the page and some forum posts do every now and then.
thanks
Dave.

Site speed and stability

Hi,

This site is generally one of the slowest I've come across - although accessing at work @ 2pm weekday seems reasonable.

Work: OS: Win 2003 Adv Srv. Browser: Firefox v2.0.0.11 ISP: Company Lan.
Home: OS: Win XP SP2 Browser: Firefox v2.0.0.11 ISP: Metronet 2Mbps.

I will often select this web site, and whilst it's loading up, do something else for a few minutes!

Slow site

Windows XP Home, Internet Exploder 7, Orange 8 Meg Broadband Connection.

Site always slow to load, sometimes I give up all together and come back to it later. Never had it freeze and always manage to login without problems. On the odd occasion it has refused to load altogether I have pulled the plug on my netgear router and allowed it to reset itself and that has usually done the trick. I assumed that this was a problem with my connection as Orange have got slower and slower since their alleged upgrade.

Tis shocking tbh, puts me off coming on, i use a few other car sites and this is by far the slowest.
I`m using Windows Vista, and newest Internet explorer.

Thanks for input so far

Think was a good idea I asked, does seem to be a more widespread problem than I thought. Wide range of Operating Systems, Browsers, and Connection types all having the same issue with the sites speed at times. So does look like an issue with the host.

Time to look around for a new host I think. Will keep everyone updated with the progress.

Things dont improve on the other side of the world either. Desktop running XP and IE7, through Ozemail ADSL broadband 1500kbps. Laptop running Vista through the same plan. About 5 hrs ago, I gave up waiting for site to load after 3 minutes. Waits of over a minute not uncommon. This log in took a good minute and a half. Waiting for threads to open not quite as bad, but still not brilliant.
