YRV TURBO, !!SERIOUS FAULT!!!! Stub axle!!

Forum:

Just thought i was post this topic about my 2003 (53) YRV Turbo, have now found out what was the fault, and why the ABS light was on and it is a little more shocking than i was expecting, According to the garage who were about to fix the ABS sensor for me I am Lucky to be in 1 piece, As when the where about to remove the wheel from my Little darling they found it was loose, expecting it to just be loose bolts it wasn't, the whole stub axel hub assembly was loose, this is what the shaft bearing and drum sit on.!!! i couldn't belive my eyes, The car has only covered 20k and just over 4 years old and this happens???? apparnetly this could be a serious manufacturing fault so i am chasing it up with daihatsu as the car will need a whole new rear subframe at a cost of £489, whats seems to have happended is that some how it has come lose and cross threaded which makes it non repairable no way of re threading it, it's strange as the car drove fine apart from the odd nocking noise which i though was the usual rear anti roll bar fault. to think i had my 5 month old daughter and son in the car, and what could of happended.

I would be interested to now if any other YRV owners have had a simular fault.

will post a new message when i hear back from daihatsu uk.

OMG!!

I think this should be in the car section with all of the other YRV comments but in response i am shocked. Shok

Did you see the car when they had it in pieces? I have found that Daihatsu are 3rd most reliable in the country so this is even more of a shock but I think (and hope) this is an isolated incident. Let us know what Daihatsu say but I would hope that they would not only repair it for you but would investigate it even further.

Lets just hope it all turns out good in the end for you.

How these things happen is beyond me really Scratch one-s head

YRV TURBO STUB AXLE

The car is going to be repaired on tuesday, it will have to be towed back to the garage as it may be to dangerous to drive.

Daihatsu UK are sending a inspector to photograph the failed part ( stub axle), and to investigate further, i have today ordered the part which is the whole rear Subframe which costs £498 inc VAT., daihatsu are concerned as the car has only just covered 20k miles and for the age and mileage of the car there is no way that this should of happended, the car has a full history being serviced every 3000 miles, so it is strange that it has not been spotted.

Sorry to hear of your

Sorry to hear of your problem.
May I suggest you change your garage if they service it every 3000 miles and haven't noticed anything.
When was it last serviced?
Surely it wouldn't be a sudden failure?
Good luck anyway.
Dave.

I have only just brought the car without any warrenty so it was the previous owner who serviced the car every 3k miles, fully stamped service history

That's worrying.....

Lucky is all I can say. I too have a 53 Plate YRV turbo. Mines in for a service at the end of the month so hoping there isn't anything serious like what you've experienced. I too would be interested in Daihatsu's reponse on this. I take your car hasn't been over any potholes of large speed bumps lately?
