Fuel drain light?

Forum:

Hi a few question if i may please.

1, My fuel drain light came on this morning, does this require me to drain my whole fuel tank and replace filter, or just change the fuel filter. Is there any reason why this would of come on?

2, My rear door hinge is tired to say the least, where can I or what could I use to put through the existing hinges to make them tighter and easier to open/shut?

3, I have the milner springs on the rear and I think they are awful. If I bought those swedish springs, are they better for ride comfort?

Thankyou in advance you kind people.

Watered Down

In a word, neither.

Daihatsu fuel filters are what is known as semi agglorometer filters which means they filter the fuel and seperate out any water in the diesel. Water collects in the fuel tank when it is low on fuel, condensation forms due to changing temperatures, and is sucked up with the fuel.
Seperated water is stored at the bottom of the filter and needs draining out, when the water level reaches a pre-determined level it operates a switch which puts the dashboard light on.

To drain, proceed as follows:

On the bottom of the filter is a large plastic knob, usually with a pipe attached, undo this plastic knob and allow the water to drain out. Tighten the knob and bleed the system, if the pipe is attached put this into a glass jar and catch the drained water, stand for a couple of hours and you will see the water with fuel floating on top.

Drain your water drain every three months, this will prevent water building up in the bottom of the filter.
To minimise condensation from forming, keep your fuel tank as full as possible, this reduces the airspace in the tank, and the potential for condensation to form.
