Amazing advice. Thank you all.

Forum:

I've become the new owner of an old Sportrak. (HD-C Engine, one of the first off the line, I suppose.)

First things first, got it down to it's undies, and swapped out the cambelt, using instructions provided on this very forum. Drove it to work, it Ran so hot it blew the Rad (in exactly the same place as another user on this forum told someone it would... jeez, you guys are good...)

So I stripped it back down, and read the back of the packet again, following all the directions. Oh, and put a brand new rad in too as the old one would probably take a welding, but then split somewhere else, being 20 years old (in case you're wondering the new one was just short of 90 quid, fresh out of the box, from AutoRads in Sheffield, thanks fellas)

So doing things properly, I got a big loud vroom, and I'm back mudding. One question: How essential is my fan shroud? I seem to have broke mine in two. Main reason for me signing up though is to say thank you for all your advice so far.

Try plating the sides.

Fan shroud should be used to direct the air. Can you plate the sides of the broken shroud to join it together with small bolts?
I broke my disco fan shrout. Plated the sides with two pieces of thin steel and small bolts and its been OK for the past few years.

Fan Shroud

Followed your advice, just rigged it together with some wood screws, strips of plastic, loctite, and rawlplugs. not pretty, but works fine. cheers.
