Lights on a sporty

Forum:

Hi there, I have a 1991 sporty and wondered if anybody out there knows how to wire up some kind of warning buzzer to the lights. The reason im asking is that i have had the misfortune on several occassions of returning to my beloved sporty only to find that i have a flat battery because i left the darn lights on again.(thats why i always carry jump leads these days).

If you could shed some light (not the best choice in words) on this topic i would be keen to hear from you.

lights on reminder!

hi Dave,
I know what u mean about the lights,it happened to me a couple of times when i got my sporty, but i soon learned to check my lights are turned off especially during the day.I know you can buy a "lights on reminder" from Maplins, because i bought one a few years back, this gives you a chime if you have left your lights on,anyway good luck with your remedy!
Higgin!

use a buzzer

thanks for all the useful hints guys, i will now go out and source a buzzer and get it wired up. Hopefully no more flat batteries.
Dave

Find a 12 volt buzer (or such

Find a 12 volt buzer (or such), and get hold of a self returning door switch (like for a certosey light or car alarm (from halfords or the like). Wire the buzer in so that it takes it's feed from the side light sercuit (after the light switch of course, so it only has a feed when the lights are on). Then for the earth conect to the switch, which needs to be mounted so that when your drivers door is closed the switch is off. Hey presto. When your lights are on, the buzer has power. When the drivers door is open, your buzer has an earth. Ergo, if your lights are on, and your drivers door is open, the buzer will sound.

buzzer

You don't need an extra switch if you connect 1 wire from the buzzer to the side light and the other to the earth that runs from the courtesy light to the door pin switch

You could do that. But then

You could do that. But then the buzzer goes off when any door is opened. Could get anoying.
