(clunk) noise from under body, (diff or transfer box i think) can you advise me???

Hey all
i have recently bought a 94 (m) swb fourtrak, afetr bein in the mud a few times when im back on the road im gettin a (clunk) noise from the drive train somewhere, it happens as i let the clutch out faster than usal or when i accelarate/take foot off accelarator quickly, can anybody adise me as too what the problem may be in oeder too avoid big garage bills?? cheers, George

the universals, each end the propshafts, should be little or no side movement nor up and down movements, if a very small amount try greasing the joint

Also check the bolts, propshaft flange to gearbox and to diff. 'Click' on take up of power is a sign that the needle bearing in are worn, a 'Clunk' is the bolts are loose or the U/J's are really badly worn, assumimg the diff internals are in good order ( rare to get problems with diff internals if oil is correct) Problems with the prop U/J's,bolts are noticiable by listening for noise/vibration with a power on/power off situation and listening for anomalities .
