Nev K possibly, or anyone who knows.
I have a Landrover that has a Daihatsu engine. It was a 2.5 but have now swapped it for a 2.8 turbo ( took your advice Nev )The temperature gauge didn't work before, which probably led to the problems with the 2.5. I have a four track gauge and now a fourtrak engine, what I need to know is what happens in between. The Landrover has a voltage stabiliser jobby on the back of the speedo, does a fourtrak have something similar, or in other words how is it wired? If it needs parts does anyone have them? Cheers.
Heated Wiring
Voltage regulators work on the positive side of the supply, these guarantee a supply voltage at a reference point, i.e. a constant voltage.
Temperature gauges have a positive supply to the gauge when the ignition is switched on, this then exits to earth via the temperature sender unit screwed into the engine. Temperature senders are simply a variable resistor, as the temperature in the engine rises, the senders resistance decreases, this is measured at the gauge, i.e. the temperature reading increases.
To test the gauge simply remove the wire from the terminal on the sender and attach to earth, sit in the vehicle and turn on the ignition, the gauge reading should increase right to the hot position.
To test the sender unit, attach a multimeter to the wiring connection and earth, note the resistance reading should be high, start the engine, and as it warms the resistance should decrease.
Wiring is simple, ignition supply to positive side of gauge, from the negative side run a cable to the temperature sender unit tag.
Thanks for that, it's easy
Thanks for that, it's easy when you know how!!!!
