1997 sportrak

Forum:

Hi all i have just got myself a 1997 sportrak elxi limited and would like to know if this model has adjustable susspension on the dash,as mine has just a hole where i think the switch should be just to the left of the rear windscreen wiper switch.
Many thanks.

shocks 97 sporty

yes you should have them fitted, but they have most likely been changed for standard shocks. if you look under the bonnet at the top of the shocks on the original ones you should see the wire going into the top of it. also check the rear you should see a little black box on the top with its wire conected, if not the previous owner took out the swicth as shocks no longer connected.

dont even think about putting them back to electric they cost a fortune, 300.00 a pair hope this helps if need any more info call daihatsu steve on 07760450683 sportys breaking all the time. based hampshire south coast

Adjustible shocks

I have a 96 Anjou with no adjustible shocks and a fog switch in the place where the adjustable knob was. The Front fogs came as standard and the switch is specifically made for the hole left in the dash for the 3 stage damper switch. I therefore assume that this car came without the adjustibles I also have a 91 with the adjustibles.
I have a feeling that they may well have been an option in the later years as they were not that good and Daihatsu were cutting production costs as can be seen from interiors and finish, however since you have the hole they may well have been removed as replacement is all most impossible and the motor mounts tended to corrode badly and were hard to remove in one piece. I replaced the rears on my 1991 because one of the adjustibles blew up spillings oil everywhere. The motorised adjusters were wrecked through corrosion and I suspect the damper was at it's base as it just screwed it self off its mount before it deposited its contents rapidly over the road.
