Fourtrak Fan noise?

Forum:

My very reliable foutrak Rocky develops a rattly noise at startup when the engine is first revved around 1500-2000 rpm. ONce the engine get some heat in it ( approx 30 -45 seconds) the noise goes away? A friend suggested it could be the fan, although everything seems tight and OK.

Any suggestions or help much appreciated.

Thanks

could be the engine mounts,

could be the engine mounts, just general cold engine, not much to worrie about i would have thought

Try WD40.

Viscous fan?
Had similar problem with my discovery. Wasted my cash buying a new belt and a new tensioner. Solved it by spaying WD40 behind the viscous fan and down into the vicous unit. Needed to 'fix' two WD40 traws together to reach the distance. Do it whilst the engine is not running. No idea what it lubricated but the noise has not returned.

Viscous fan.

Same here.

At startup the viscous fan seems not to slip and makes lots of fan noise.

This persists for about a minute at fast idle (1300 rpm) on cold days, until the fan quickly decouples and idles at obviously a much slower speed (the racket subsides too).

It has always done this and I have assumed that it's due to the coupling fluid warming up and becoming less viscous.

If your vehicle rattles during this time, it could be that some of the mechanics in the coupling are becoming worn and clanking about a bit.

Fan Problems

Thanks for all the help.

I couldn't find the problem and put it into the garage. The problem was located to the lower crankshaft fan belt pulley . The metal outer ring has separated from the inner ring. Now replaced and all is smooth and welll
