Sportrak rear diff guard / 8000 mile journey.

Forum:

Does anyone have any drawings or ideas for a rear diff guard for a Sportrak?

Has anyone found the front guard is not substantial enough for off roading?

Any ideas for strengthening the front guard?

Any other ideas or suggestions for vehicle preparation for an 8000 mile journey over the sahara to Timbuktu and back would be most welcome.

You can visit our site www.2timbuktuandback.com for details of our planned preparations so far.

Protection

Guards and underbody protection are subjective, for this type of expedition you will need something substantial, forget aluminium, use a heavy steel such as 8mm thick plate.

Rear diff guards usually require substantial brackets welding to the axle, the diff guard will bolt straight to these.

Would suggest you go to web sites of vehicle preperation companies who specialise in 4X4's, these will give you a lot of good ideas, and often, a lot of good designs. Many of these sites have a large number of years experience of preperation ang may offer advice, or even supply drawings.
