15W/40 engine oil for a Fourtrak

Forum:

Hi
I've found some 15W/40 engine oil that seems to be a relatively good price, or at least as good as any price these days when things seem to be going up by the day! It's £35 for 20 litres and is made by Total.
I'm sure it's probably fine for a Fourtrak (mine is a 2002 model), but I'm just a bit uncertain about the standards on the can. It says it is ACEA E2 but I can't find out whether or not this is a suitable standard for a turbo diesel such as in the Fourtrak. It also says API CG4 which, from what I have found, seems to be suitable for turbo diesels.
Does anybody know if this would do the job ok?
I've searched the archives but there's no reference to ACEA E2.
I'm probably going in to far too much detail (sad - I know), but it's only done 35k miles and so I have a great opportunity to look after it and get a huge mleage out of it (hopefully!).
Thanks for any advice.

Yes this is suitable for your vehicle, specifications required for your engine are considerably less than that of the oil.

API is the American Petroleum Institute, this is regarded as the highest and most consistent standard for engine oils in the world.
Total oils are a premium brand which meet the requirements of modern engines, they do not produce a cheaper, lower standard range of oils as other manufacturers do. Total offer discounted oils to the market place as an incentive to users as a marketing ploy, just as all other companies do; just ensure this is not a fully synthetic oil as it is not suitable for your engine. Semi synthetic or mineral oil is suitable.

I agree with assasin but would add that the price is cheap as I recently had to purchase some from a garage in an emergency and Total Activa was 12€ for 1 LTR. Ok the Activa is 10W/40 but it was bloody dear! 5 ltrs of Total 15w/40, in French supermarkets will cost around 20€.

I also support the advise to ensure it is not 100% synthetic as these are not suitable. Either 100% Mineral or semi synthetic are suitable.

Thanks guys. I suspected it

Thanks guys. I suspected it would be OK but thought it best just to check.
The oil does seem to be good value. It is from an agricultural merchants and has their label on it but is actually made by Total. It is clearly aimed at agricultural users and meets the standards of Caterpillar, Volvo, MAN and others all marked on the label. I guess if it's good enough for a modern tractor then it's more than good enough for a Fourtrak.
It is definitely mineral oil by the way. If it was synthetic, other than being no good for a Fourtrak, it really would be a good bargain.
By the way, if anybody is interested in getting some, it's from Carrs Billington who I think have branches all over the North West. Sorry, that probably doesn't help you very much Oldminiman!
