Dave with a Sporty are you there? can you help me AGAIN?

Forum:

Me again with my problems, I have changed the front brake pads cos they were a bit spongy, the old pads had bare metal showing.
Changed the pads, no problems there (as you said Dave no special tools needed) except from trying to get the piston back, but with brute strength pushed the piston back and installed new pads, bleed the system drove the car and AAARRRGGGHH!!!! the brakes stayed ON!!!! smoke every where, it feels as if when i apply the brakes the pads DONT go back to the OFF position.

Did notice that when drive of everything ok, but as soon as apply the brakes they stay on, but after a few yards they seem to go off, then when apply brakes again they seem to stay on, again after say 50 yards they go off again.

I dont think i've done anything wrong, although never owned a daihatsu before i really dont know.

Has anyone come across this before? if so can anyone help me?

Cheers people

Brake problems

Hi there,
I am pretty sure that you have to get those pistons to go smothly.
On my Rocky (Fourtrak) I had to take them apart completely and grease everything. On a Rocky the cylinder only has one piston but, the other part has to move as well.

Per.

You have had some very good advice there....I personally go for the point that regards the resovior cap.

But there is now a danger that your fluid has boiled and to be on the safe side, change it all. Bleed from the furthest point from the master cylinder resivior first, (rear) working back to the nearest (O/S front). Don't also forget to clean and lub the shafts the calipers are supported on with copper grease so they 'float' correctly.

A wee tip regarding pushing the piston back....get yourself one of those squeezable G clamps from B&Q (they have a kind of trigger arrangement)..about £5...it makes the job a cinch

can you help me.

As msraps just commented on his vehicle,it seems like the pistons in
the calipers are pitted and will not retract back into the caliper.
the only remedy is to strip and clean the pistons, with very fine emery
paper/wire wool.Don't fully retract the pistons out as they are a
difficult job to fully rebuild, tight tollerances between piston and caliper bore.Hope this is of some help.

sounds daft but when you presed the pistons back did you take the brake fluid resevior cap off. if you didnt when you press the pistons back it can creat presure and cause then to stick a bit hepend to me last month hope this helps
