Hello , first post on here .
My P reg version has a wierd problem . The rear axle seems at an odd angle ie its about 2 inches forward on the off side and 2 inches back at the passenger side .
This means it sort of crabs its way along - although you notice nothing if you drive gently , if you go and hit a corner at speed - its not good !!
I bought the vehicle VIA EBAY from a good seller !!?? , and it was like this when I got it . My MOT inspector has not noticed it !!!, but if I asked him about it directly i suspect he would just fail it this next time !!! As they don't take them out on a road test its one of those dangerous faults that can just slip through .
What has happened to the axle position does anyone think No obvious damage of the rods.
Cheers Michael
leaf or spring

If it's P reg, it's an Independent (if you're talking 4trak)
If it's leaf spring, then it is possible that the top leaf has broken on one side and the axle has slid back. Easy solution .... get a new leaf spring.
BUT, the later independents have coil springs and a parallel lever linkage, along with the obvious trailing arms that carry the springs and shock-absorbers.
If memory serves, both sides of the parallel link system are identical (and straight), as well as the trailing links. If, on inspection, you don't find this to be true, then there has been serious damage to the linkages which should be fixable by replacing the damaged parts. The degree of force required to cause this damage is scary .... remember, this mechanism is specified to take the forces when you tow 3.5 Tons, so is meant to take some hammer.
However, if all is found to be symmetrical between left and right sides, then the question of an out-of-true chassis rears its head. The force required to cause this amount of damage is HUGE, so it's pretty obvious that the vehicle has been in a serious accident, and eBay is yet again proven to be a waste of time and money.
There is one saving grace .... if the chassis is very badly rusted, one of the linkage attachments might have come away. That's also serious, but not as bad as a bent chassis.
leaf spring, axle...
hello, i have 1999 hijet and the offside rear wheel is not sitting right, when you drive it it rubs, sounds like a machine gun at speed, because of a fractured leaf spring. It has obviously failed it's mot because of this. On the certificate they have put "offside rear leaf spring fractured **DANGEROUS**" and "offside rear leaf spring fitted in such a way that the axle is misaligned" and told me that it is dangerous to drive. So now i was seeing if anyone else had a similar problem, is it worth bothering gettin it fixed or selling for spares?????
replacing a broken leaf
replacing a broken leaf spring isnt a big job, its only a couple of u bolts holding the axle to the spring and a bolt each end holding the spring to the body... a half decent spanner basher should do it in an hour or so
P reg what please? Any veiws
