Where do these go? - HiJet S85 993cc CB42 Van (MPV)

Forum:

Hi all, nearly got everything back together but today noticed (1) earth wire (just braiding) dangling down from body near expansion tank under passenger seat. It is bolted to bodywork & other end has nothing on it & I don't know where it should go. I'm guessing it has been like this before I started messing about & it should have a round connector soldered to it to bolt it down somewhere - it's long enough to reach rocker cover which has a stud in it where maybe this earth fixes, so big question is, does anyone have an earth from this position fitted to rocker cover or elsewhere?

(2) Now this one is down to me Blush There is a rubber hose that fits on pipe in Distributor Housing but where does other end go to? This end has what looks like a plastic 'cap' with possibly 2 pips in it that enable it to be snapped into something - trouble is I've no idea where as I don't remember removing it & it's not in my notes (back of envelope job).

All ideas & suggestions welcomed, sorry no prizes though. Thanks, Paul.

Hi Paul, If you've

Hi Paul,
If you've got a braided earth lead bolted to the body, then the chances are that the other end should be bolted to the engine. Find a stud on the engine, and bolt it to that. Regarding the distributor, I think you're referring to the vaccuum pipes that connect from the distributor advance and retard diaphragm. the other end of these are connected to a 'junction block' on the opposite side of the engine, in the area of the thermostat housing. I'm assuming yours is a carburettor engine, and not fuel injection Unknw

Where do these go?

Hi jetex, earth sorted - bolted to rocker cover stud.

As to other prob, I've got fuel injection, so don't think it's to do with advance and retard. What it is, is a rubber hose fits onto an 'L' shaped metal pipe which comes out of the 'Distributor Housing'. This 'L' shaped metal pipe is roughly parallel to cross-member under rear of front seats & about level with rear floor. It can be seen with passenger seat up to right of distributor & is pointing towards passenger side door.

The other end of rubber hose has what looks like a plastic 'cap' approx 20mm across, with rubber hose in middle of cap. There are 2 plastic pips under cap which look like it snaps into something.

All I can see at moment is that this hose 'cap end' reaches a hole (of about right size) in bodywork under rear floor. I can only guess it's some sort of breather pipe, so I would be interested in what others think or if anyone has a 1 litre injection Hijet & could look for me I would be grateful. With passenger seat up, it should be clear where this hose goes (you might need to feel where it finishes) otherwise you have to stick your head under passenger sliding door to see. Thanks in advance. Paul.

Hi-Jet Engine

Hi Paul,
My van has a carburettor, so the pipework will be different to yours. Your pipe could possibly be a breather, as when the distributor is spinning, it creates a pressure build up within it which has to be released. There is a van with fuel injection in a scrap yard near me, so if I get a chance, I will go and have a look and report back to you. Cheers for now.
