Acitone in Petrol?

Forum:

Diffrent idea. Same reason. I have been told that small amounts of acitone added to petrol makes it vaporize better (2 mill to 1o gallons maybe). This in turn can couse beter burning, and then better performance / MPG (depending on driving style). Any one know anything about this? Assasin? No idea if there is ANY substance to this idea. That's why I'm putting it on here. Maybe one of you does know if this works... or not. Smile

Obtaining Acetone

Acetone is commercially available in a crude form from resin suppliers, this is usually used by glassfibre companies. Both polyester based resins, and epoxy resins will be dissolved by acetone, even after hardening.

My missus works as a beauty

My missus works as a beauty consulatnt and she gets me Acetone from suppliers such as this in gallon containers. The packaging is only basic so I know nothing about the grades but it's as effective as anything I remember...

Acetone

Acetone os an industrial solvent, and in certain refined forms is more combustible than petrol, this does not mean it will work in petrol.

Being an industrial solvent means that even in small amounts it will cause premature detonation, degrade all rubber or plastic seals, and break down the petrol. Petrol is a refined substance and blended to strict criteria, this damages this chemical structure and causes certain emissions to rise drastically.

Without getting into the technicalities, as it is too complex for a web forum; it is not recommended to mix anything other than approved additives to petrol.

Over the years this type of issue has risen many many times, methanol and ethanol were the last ones that were popular, as well as various other cheap alcohol based substances.

Unfortunately; just as the bio fuel issues, much misinformation exists, particularly on the internet, and all it does is to prove an expensive, often dangerous mistake for those trying it.
