Forum:
I've got a Daihatsu 2.8L NA diesel in my Series III Land Rover* which was imported from the UK to the USA, unfortunately none of the diesel Daihatsus were ever imported/sold over here so the parts suppliers can't help me out. Having a parts book for this engine would greatly ease the pain of ordering and parts internationally. Any known sources or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Hi and Welcome
Hi.
Hope this link works. I have one of these cd's, take a bit of understanding as it covers all Diahatsu models, US seller. Had good service as he immediatly replaced a "lost in post" CD. Ths is a Parts Manual, not a Service Manual, cross reference to all species of that particular model, and all sections. "Rocky" section would be of interest to you.
"Diahatsu Electronic Parts Catalog All Models All Years."

Excellent!
Excellent! It's a bit overkill and I don't have Windows, so I'll have to install Parallels/VMware & Windows on my Mac, but that's definitely what I need.
Thanks!

Engine Number?
On a related note, how can I determine the engine model number and where can I find the serial number? I haven't been able to find any markings on the engine other than the raised Daihatsu logo & the peeling sticker/label on the valve cover.
A general idea where to start cleaning dirt off would be greatly appreciated.

Engine Number
Engine number and engine type positions, as per service manual F75 series 2.8 Diesel
Center of left side of cylider block and/or below front of exhaust manifold/left side of block.
Look for a flat grind area and the details could be stamped on it
Hope this helps.

Found it!
Yup, the flat grind area was just below the front of the exhaust manifold w/the number stamped on it:
462679
Any way to determine the model/age of the engine from this and which Fourtrak it came from? Are the 2.8L NA diesels from the F70 & F75 the same?
Many thanks!

I think there were only 2
I think there were only 2 engines, the NA DL-42 and Turbo DL-52, not sure though.
Perfect
Perfect, thanks!
I can now assume that the peeling & torn sticker/label on the valve cover definitely says "DL" and I already knew it was a non-turbo 2.8L DL from a Fourtrak. Certainly sounds like there was only one 2.8 DL (as opposed to the 2.8 DL Turbo) used in the F70/F75/F77 from (at least from 1984-1989).
I'll order a Parts Catalog for the F70/F75/F77.
Not sure if it's worth asking, but are there any well known & reliable parts suppliers that export to the US?

Export,

Milner Off Road
Nice. I had already come across Milner Off Road in previous searches, so I'm glad to hear they export and are considered reliable.
Many thanks for the assistance. You all have been extremely helpful.

If you want to give me your
If you want to give me your email address I can send you the PDF page from my service manual "general info" section that lists all models, might be of some help.
Age/ect
Hi.
My disc will only search via the Chassis/VIN Number, but if you can give me a part number off the block/head, or any original part number . I can scroll though the parts listing for that item. As it lists, year from/to, model, part number.
