Independant mods and tyres

Forum:

After 4 yrs of ownership I decided to improve the off road performance of my Fourtak Independant. First step was to have a 2" suspension lift fitted. Next step is to change the tyres. Im looking at 31 10.50 15s. I have read on here that they can rub the chasis and foul the mud flaps. Is this still the case once the suspension lift is in place Unknw Any feedback would be apreciated. Im looking at fitting Khumo KL71s. Anybody have any experience of these. The other option is Cooper STTs maybe in a 30 9.50 15. Again any feedback would be appreciated.

On the subject of mods, the suspension lift was carried out by Dave at Bloodredoffroad. Dave is a really nice guy with loads of experience with Daihatsu 4X4s. The conversion was carried out in 3 hrs with new rear springs, shocks, new front shocks and adjusting up the torsion bars on the front. Overall a great conversion with no adverse effects to the on raod performance of the vehicle.

Dave is currently working on many mods for Daihatsu including winch bumpers , snorkels and under body protection. I am hoping to fit some/all of these to my vehicle in the future. It is really nice to see someone making specialist parts for Daihatsu as all of us who own them know what great vehicles they are.

i have 33/12.50/15 kl71's on

i have 33/12.50/15 kl71's on mine but they are fitted to 10x15 wheels with a -30 offset and i had to turn the steering stops in 1 turn, this is the 3rd set of these tyres ive had and think they are great but dont think that 31" tyres is going to make it that much better off road as they are low under neath and deep ruts will get you stuck.

you may need to adjust your steering stops but it will depend on what offset your wheels are.

kl71s

Thanks for the reply parrot. Ive seen your truck on difflock before, some real nice mods. The problem is that my Mrs uses our Fourtrak as a daily driver therefore I dont wont to make it too wild.31s will probably the biggset I will go for. But your right they are quite low underneath although the lift and 31s should give me 3" more clearance.

3" more clearance ?!?!

What size tyres were you running before?

because if you've got 3" more clearance running 31's then you must've been running 25's before. remeber 31 is the total diameter of the tyre, so any extra clearance is half of the difference in diameter so i assume that you mean 1.5" extra clearance.

no 2" from the suspension and

no 2" from the suspension and 1" from the tyres oe tyres are about 29" so yea thats 3" more.see if bloodredoffroad can make you a new cross member as you can gain another 1" from that

oops sorry

sorry wrong here then, it all depends on whats the lowest, in the fourtrak's case it's usually the crossmember, but in certain other vehicles case (i.e. lawnrover)its the diffs, which can only be raised by bigger tyres. I should have known better.

Indy crossmember

Hi Parrot
have seen your truck on here and previously read your posts on Difflock, your crossmember solution is almost idenitical to mine. Takes a while to get things to a retail stage though and so you have kind of gazzumped me with your pics but my replacement crossmember should be ready in this week, 5 in the first production run 8mm thick and zinc plated. Will post a pic as soon as I have them.
best regards
Dave
