I am thinking about buying the above just for towing a horse trailer, how much is it worth?

Fourtak SWB
What the car is worth is subjective. Look on e-bay and Autotrader and that will give you a rough idea of what they fetch, condition is the most important factor. 48,000 miles is extremely low for a 20 year old Fourtrak. Check if there is any evidence to back up the mileage such as service history or old MOT's. Generally they are extremly tough vehicles and capable of huge milages if looked after. Rust will be your main concern. Parts are cheap and so should servicing be ( at least cheap for a 4x4 ). If the vehicle has a properly mounted factory towbar it will pull 3.5 tonne and should have no problem pulling a horse box.
Thank you for your advice,
Thank you for your advice, have checked the old MOT's and the mileage is correct, it was used for pulling boats in/out the water at a marina. was told you need to keep an eye on the water level and its needs some new glow plugs. But started it up yesterday fine x

If it was a salt water marina
If it was a salt water marina make sure you check very carefully for corrosion and problems with the hubs and brakes. Salt water and vehicles don't go together.

Does the WB make any difference?
Does the wheelbase make any difference to the weight it can tow? I knew a LWB could legally pull 3.5 tonnes but I thought it was something to do with the braking weight ratio and a SWB would be lighter.
but hey, what would I know? I'm just a Gurl!
