hi there i am new here so hello and hey goes i have a 97 fourtrak and it seems to be smoking realy bad it doesent at idle but when i get the revs up and its black smoke i dont think the turbo is at fault because it pulls realy well i allways look after her by giving her a service every 3000 miles and apart from that it runs realy well thanks

You have changed the air filter ???. Other thoughts are loose or leaking joints on the compression side of the turbo, or a perforated turbo intercooler, resulting in a partial loss of turbo pressure, injectors requiring a service due to poor spray pattern, cam/timing belt slip !!!puting the timing out on the injector pump/valves.

In addition to Edwards post it could be a fuelling problem with the pump delivering too much fuel at anything but idle speeds.
