No car doors

Forum:

Does anyone know if it's legal to drive around with no doors on my sportrak?

Its not legal in a lorry, but

Its not legal in a lorry, but I don't know about cars...
What happened to the doors, someone nick them? ;p

the 55 landrover we had when

the 55 landrover we had when i was a wee bit younger had lift of doors... neighbour had a bedford van with sliding doors which he sometimes drove with them open... seatbelts hadnt been invented then either. some of the kit car jeep thingies dont have doors...
alot of old tractors either didnt have cabs at all or the doors were taken off in summer for cooling.
plod would probably say that the doors add to the rigidity of the body in an accident, whether you risk it without getting a definitive answere is up to you.. guess a lot depends on where you are intending to drive.. pottering round the lanes you will probably get away with it .. id be willing to wager a small sum that going on the motorway would attract the boys in blue.

are doors necessarry to pass the mot?

I just saw two Smart cars

I just saw two Smart cars being driven around with no roofs, windscreans or doors. Looked like a factory mod. Drivers wearing full face mask skid lidds. Only thing that sprang to mind was WHY?
I think the law is that there should be some sort of blokage to stop ocupants falling out. A bar will do. The Smart cars had a sort of padded flip up square bar.
As with most things car legality related, it probably depends how old your car is as to what it would need to be legal. A 55 Landrover for instance probably needs nothing. The soft top LJ a friend once had came with a clip in metal bar about an inch thick accross the door hole, level with the top of the rear body.
All of this is puerly sercomstantuall of course.

Any veiws expresed in this thread by me are purely from my own experience, and (sometimes) falible memory. Hope my comments help, but please don't take them as gospel.

What I meant is lorries have

What I meant is lorries have to have them to pass the MOT. I think tractors are a different matter, seeing as they are not a road-going vehicle and don't need an MOT. There is a jeep that runs around in Bridgwater with no doors...
