Radio Wiring

Forum:

Can anyone please advise as to the wiring on a a 96 Fourtrack. I just need to know (by colour) a wiring diagram for the standard factory fit ISO plug so I can make up an adaptor to suit a JVC Head Unit waiting to go in.

Thanks

Tim

Your Fourtrak actually has a

Your Fourtrak actually has a plug? Mine was just 1 positive and the aerial. I had to take ignition feed from the ciggy lighter, and run my own constant feed from the battery and wire in new speakers. To test your plug is pretty easy, 1 wire will be live with the key off, this is constant feed or memory. Another will become live when the key is switched on which is live. For the speakers they should be gray/gray with black stripe ect, but if not you can test them by putting each set of wires across a AA battery, the speaker its connected to will make a noise.

Problems, problems

OK, so that was easy enough, thanks.

As soon as I connected the radio however, the clock decided enough was enough! I cant see anything obvious - fuses etc - and, I now discover the radio only works with the ignition on, despite connecting what I believe are a constant feed and a feed via the ignition.

Any idea's? Coincidence and the clock died?

Thanks

Tim

Constant feed is only for the

Constant feed is only for the radio clock and for it to remember the radio presets and track number with CD. The radio will only work with the ignition on, the way to check if the constant feed is working is if it remembers radio stations you've tuned in. I though my 'track had the wires there already, but it seemed that the constant feed and live were in 1 wire, as I had small volts with ignition off and 12v with it on, must be the original radio was odd. As for the clock, no idea =/ I have a clock in mine and it works fine, I wouldn't have thought it would be a fuse, because the radio wouldn't work either. Did you cut any wires? The only thing I can suggest is to do what I did. Take the ignition feed live and neg from the ciggy lighter, and run a fused constant feed from the battery. Then you know exactly whats coming from where, before you do though, try disconnecting the radio, and see if the clock starts working again. If you do use the ciggy lighter, I would change the 20a fuse to a 10a one, the ciggy lighter still works, but I only use it for satnav anyway.

Yes, think I'll have to start

Yes, think I'll have to start again.

There was already some sort of sub-loom from the factory ISO type plug, I presume an adaptor to another after market head unit. I modified this adaptor by cutting it and splicing on another adaptor that came with the new head unit.

The clock on the radio does not hold it's time, but the preset stations appear saved in the radio memory, although each time I turn on the radio - which I have to do manually when ever I start the car - I have to use the preset station buttons again as it defualts to an unknown frequency.

You don't have the right

You don't have the right wires, it should come on with the key and it should save the time and stations, looks like your standard wires are as wankey as mine were.

Yep!!! I ended up running a

Yep!!!

I ended up running a live feed from the battery terminal through a fuse. Without it, no clock, no rear door switch, no memory (in the radio - mine went years ago)

The only wires that appeared correct were the front speakers.
