handbook says tank capacity is 60 litres
as I always brim the tank, it appears than when needle reaches the "red" there are about 3 gallons of diesel left.
have driven around under this assumption for ten years, but recently ran out of fuel (in Cornwall and with caravan attached, no joke!)
having now filled the tank from empty, it only takes 53 litres, so why do the manufacturers claim it is a 60 litre tank?

Could be many things, mainly it is the bottom of the tank being dented which reduces its capacity.
Check the float assembly as this may have sagged and is giving a false reading, also check the tank for accumulated debris in the bottom.

I'm with you.. I think they are smaller than stated.. I have also run out when there should have been 15 litres left in the bottom of the tank.. and my tank was not dented and perfectly clean...
