'05-on Sirion - Chat

Forum:

I've recently acquired an '05' ('New' shape) Sirion 1.3SE, my first Daihatsu, as an everyday, all-purpose runabout. I'd like to hear from other owners of this model about likes, dislikes, things to look out for etc.

My first impressions are positive but there are a few things that concern me. I find the clutch pedal uncomfortable and I'm not keen on the paper cartridge oil filter. I'm thinking of making a couple of modifications in these areas, which I've posted on the forum under 'Modifications' in the hope of getting some advice.

I'm also thinking of upgrading the headlight bulbs, which I've done on another car to good effect. Accessing the bulbs on the Sirion looks to be a bit of a struggle though - is it?

The engine performs great around town and in the suburban environment but on the open road seems to run out of steam much sooner that I would expect of a 1.3L hauling a light body. I imagine that it's chipped heavily in favour of economy at the expense of torque.

When I get a car that I'm not familiar with I'm always keen to learn which parts of the body are most prone to rust so I can take preventative action (as best I can!). I know that this body shell has only been around for 5 years but does anyone have any experience of it rusting anywhere?

I've read on the forum of the difficulty some have experienced in finding a reasonably priced Daihatsu workshop manual for this model. E-mail me if you'd like to know where I got mine.

I look forward to hearing from you.
