Fourtrak softop windscreen HELP!!!

Forum:

Have been restoring a 1989 fourtrak f80 soft top & have now hit a major snag.

After having suprisingly little trouble sourcing parts, we now discover the one thing we expected to be easy to find is impossible. Namely a replacement front windscreen.

We have been to every winscreen company in yellow pages,Every 4x4 & Daihatsu parts dealer, even spoken to Daihatsu direct. Apparantly there is not a new screen to be had in the U.K.

As far as second hand screens go, being a softop means they are prone to getting smashed very soon in breakers yards. On top of this Daihatsu say they only ever imported 80 of this model to U.K, so they are as rare as hens teeth anyway.

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated & if you happen to know where to find one i`ll be your friend for life!!!

Contact a smaller local

Contact a smaller local windscreen specialist, these will often cut down a screen to fit yours from a larger one. It will normally be at your own risk (and expense) as it is not 100% successful as sometimes they break during cutting.

Soft top windscreen

Have already gone down that route i`m afraid.

Have been woefully unimpressed by the customer service of most windscreen replacement services. Either make arrangments & don`t turn up, or else say they have the screen you are looking for when you call, then suddenly they don`t... Fed up!!!

Problem is there is a slight curve in the screen, which makes a bespoke screen hard to make & a ludicrous price to buy.

Surely there must be a second hand screen somewhere..?

Trust me to by the only "rare" japenese viechle around...

Thanks for the advice anyway but i need a cheaper alternative.

f80 windscreen woes.

Oh that it were that simple.

The problem is that no other fourtraks have the same size screen as he f80 soft tops. They have a fold down screen alot like early land rovers. Its shorter than the hardtop screen by several inches. The closest i`ve found is the screen in the f20.

Am advised that the f20 screen folds down but the glass is somewhat smaller than the f80 soft top. Not sure if this is accurate, but i`m sure someone out there knows?

Also there is a slight curve to the screen which makes using the glass out of something else very differcult.

Also just been imformed by Daihatsu Japan that there is not a new screen even in Japan, even if i could afford the cost of import.

Thanks again for the advice & suggestions...

Here`s hoping i find an answer before the weather turns or its going to get very wet....
