I am Newbie on this forum and have acquired a very smokey 98 Sirion which blows out blue smoke when it is cold and then quickly clears during warm up. Classic valve stem seal/guide failure/wear and as everyone out there must know a great deal more about these things than me I would appreciate advice on what is usually wrong and things to look out for on replacement. I have ordered up the appropriate workhop manual CD from the dealer.
Another thing is the car appears noisy under power which sounds to me like an engine mounting failure rather than something horrible in the gearbox or final drive. The car is completely quiet on the overrun and idling in neutral. However, the radio is missing and some noise maybe coming in through the hole in the dashboard! Again, any typical weak points or failures known to you all will be extremely helpful. It is such a lovely little car and far too good to throw away!
