YRV discs

Forum:

Having several times viewed the havoc that rust wreaks on the inner braking surface of YRV discs I had decided to paint the non-contact outer edges of the disc in the hope of slowing the rusting process.

Last time I had used a high temperature manifold paint....1200 degrees Celsius stuff. It hadn't lasted very well, probably because it never got heated enough to cure properly.

Bob F said that he'd used Hammerite successfully and that he didn't brake hard. Neither do I, so this time I thought I'd give it a go, even though I know it's only good for 80 degrees Celsius, 120 degrees for short periods.

Then I went out to bed the brakes in. Hmmmm! There was a smell of hot paint and on inspection the Hammerite had started to turn brown and was bubbling. Let's hope it's formed a hard crusty durable surface that will withstand my normal gentle braking.
