MOT failure

Forum:

Hi all. I have a K reg Sportrak that we have used been using as a tow vehicle for a couple of years. For the past 9 months my son used it as a daily drive. It has been great and as seasoned Fourtrak/Sportrak owners will know, just carried on through January's snow like it was June, passing stranded X5's, Cayennes etc! Just recently an MOT tester, who must have been one of the X5 drivers, decided that it should be off the road...

Amongst the welding etc required, the rear leaf springs need replacing - he says. It's done about 110,000 miles and has been in my locale for many years. What is it worth now as an MOT failure? It is probably worth something to someone, who can do the welding etc. I'd be grateful for any info.

Cheers

what sort of welding

I recently did some welding on a freinds sportrak round the wheel arch/seatbelt area because it would hve failed this time round, so done that, they gave me 100 quid for labour/sundries, unfortunately the mot guy picked up on another dozen places where it was/ is a rotbox, I didn't have time to do allll that (huge job) cost the woman cos she loves the car nearly 700 quid, which is more than what its worth, it will pass another one or two mots after this work but after this time really won't be worth anything however it is mechanically sound, what I'm trying to say is that this one in particular is the worst rotten vehicle I've ever seen but its still on the road (even lost the bolts in the anti roll bar somehow ), so how really bad is it???

Full of ideas but no time to do them!!

Three areas mentioned.

Three areas mentioned. "Offside (under vehicle seal"). "Offside outer lower (seal)". "Offside rear (near towbar)".

I suppose the whole thing is borderline as far as cost against value is concerned.

MOT failures go for couple

MOT failures go for couple hundred on ebay, as comment above welding would depend on extent of rust, but would probably out-value the car

Thanks Rob. I was lucky in picking it up for a song, so it doesn't really owe me anything. Got quite fond of it though! Smile
