Forum:
I would like to have a rant. As an owner of an older Daihatsu [1998 Sirion], I needed to replace my valve seals and so, being an engineer decided to do the job myself and to lift the cylinder head rather than doing the job in situ so I could regrind the valves and all the other good stuff.
Well, what has surprised me is the parts supply situation with Daihatsu. Here I am a month after I started the job and I am still waiting for parts. These are not in my opinion weird parts. For example, the water pump to cylinder head "O" Ring [which is inexpicably not in the ridiculously expensive gasket kit] and the gasket between the throttle body and the inlet manifold. OK, I could make a gasket and re-use the "O" ring but I have never known such a poor supply situation. It is not as if the EJ engine is a rare unit. A rear lamp assembly is also on back order. Valve shims were not avaialable so I ended up using spurious ones and so on. Nearly everything I have needed except for service items have been back ordered.
Daihatsu employ a Parts Inventory Manager but I cannot for the life of me understand what he does all day.
They really need to get their parts supply sorted out as they are way behind their competitors in this area in my experience and opinion.
Rant Over.
