The great YRV mystery

Forum:

I thought my YRV had an individual problem....the front of the offside rear seat section sits about an inch lower than that of the nearside section.

Then I noticed the same thing in the pics of a YRV for sale on eBay.

Anybody else have this problem, and more particularly, does anyone know what causes it? I can't get enthused enough to take out the seat base cover to investigate.

rear seat base

The base of the rear seats can be removed and is held in by orange clamps. I suspect one of these has not be lock fully. To see the clamps, pull the front of the seat towards the front headrest and then flip the back of the base up.

Seat bases

Thanks for your comments chaps. Unfortunately the problem is somewhat more subtle I fear.

Since I bought the car in 2001 I've had the seat bases out dozens of times to assist in carrying big loads so know the mechanism well. The problem has always existed.

This is what happens.....I put the seat bases back, ensuring the orange clips are firmly home. The seat bases are level after I've pushed them into position, then if you put firm pressure on the front of the offside seat base it drops about an inch. This doesn't happen on the nearside seat base.

If you feel around the fixed base through the thin carpet that covers it you can feel many bits which might support or otherwise the seat bases. Taking out this thin carpet to reveal the bits to look for interference doesn't appeal to me. Had just hoped that someone made of sterner stuff than I, had done this and found the problem.

YRV Tony

Interesting, it must be YRV month :-)

Tony,

Mine doesn't do this, I would look at the clips holding the bottom part of the seat.
