rear shocker removal f78

Forum:

Can't get the rear shockers off my Fourtrak. The bottom bolt is easy to loosen, and I have left this on, but the top nut just keeps spinning, rotating the top half of the shocker. What am I doing wrong? Any help appreciated.

all damper tops vary

what is on top? double nut? hexagon socket? you have to hold the shaft at the top by means of whatever is the fitment then just unscrew the nuts with a spanner

Full of ideas but no time to do them!!

Got the nut off the shocker,

Got the nut off the shocker, by using a nut splitter. No wonder I could not get it off by normal means, it was a locking nut - once on, it is designed not to come off.

The nut is positioned above

The nut is positioned above the shocker on a threaded spline thingy, which goes down into the shocker - there is no double nut. I did manage to get a 6mm spanner on the top of the spline, but with the force exerted in turning the nut in the opposite direction,it snapped.I may have a go at the nut with a nut splitter

rear shock

if your fitting new shocks just grind them off thats what i did lol if your not then good luck with that they can be a right pain lol
