Forum:
Hi,
I'm new here and currently looking for a good condition Fourtrak for my fishing. shooting and gundog training hobbies. I live in Fort William, in the Highlands. There seem to be plenty for sale on Ebay, but sadly, many of them are in the deep south and due to the variability in condition I would have to see one before buying, so ideally, I need one in Scotland somewhere. I did look at one in Aberdeenshire, a 98 Fieldman in apparently good condition with a low mileage. Fortunately, after researching here I was able to find the telltale signs of rot at the floor/wheel arch joints and so passed on it.
1) As a general question, does rot in the sills also usually signal rot in other areas of the vehicle, or are the sills known as a weak spot? and is it possible to find one with sills needing welding and the rest of it OK?
2) I understand that the SWB 'commercial' weighs less than the TDL/TDX variants - would this indicate a potentially better fuel consumption for this model?
Thanks in advance for answering these, my first questions.
Cheers, Terry
Scotland - hardly any up here
Hi
We live in Aberdeenshire and finding a decent fourtrak up here is nigh on impossible.
We bought a Fieldman but it ended up rusting away, so it is now kept as spares, lovely engine which will go in our other TDX at some time, as for rust, I've yet to see one up here without the bloody stuff. Will be posting my own query on what to do with the rust on the TDX soon.
We have noticed a difference in fuel consumption between the two, not a big difference but there is some, will probably end up taking the rear setas out of the TDX in the future.
