New owner with rusty fuel pipes!

Forum:

First off i'd like to say Hi to everyone, looks like a great forum.

As the title says, i've owned my F78 fourtrak for two weeks, but apart from collecting it, i have yet to use it, as i bought it with no MOT.
I knew it needed a few things, but the fuel lines are worst than expected and actually leaving diesel on the floor.
Apologies if i'm going over old ground, (i'll soon get the hang of it) just wondered if i have to take the fuel tank out to renew the pipes, this will prob become obvious but i have not been able to have good look yet.
Its not that i want to cut corners, just cant wait to get it out the bloody garage and into some mud!

Thanks in advance

Steve

It will be difficult to

It will be difficult to remove the fuel tank as most of the fasteners will snap through corrosion, so be prepared to drill and re-tap many holes. Dropping the tank in itself is not a big job.

Fit the chassis with plastic clips, you can then use 8mm bore central heating pipe which is copper, so no corrosion in the future. You will need each end either flared with a flaring tool, or if you can solder, solder an 8mm olive on.

This will give the flexible sections something for the clips to bite behind.

Never let copper come into contact with steel or you wil get electrolytic reaction.

Copper is acceptable by VOSA, so no issues with MOT's.

rusty fuel pipes

Thanks for your reply. Can the fuel return pipe also be done in 8mm, even though its slightly smaller?

Do you guys recommend any particular drill and tap kits, i'm already p'd off with breaking every bolt i touch!

Yes, you can use them for

Yes, you can use them for both feed and return pipes, i have fitted them to many vehicles over many years. The pipe is copper microbore pipe which is very flexible and easily installed, and available from most plumbing specialists. One roll will do both feed and return, so no need to buy two different size rolls.

Thanks for replys, i have

Thanks for replys, i have fixed problem now. I did call my nearest main dealer and they said there was no such part.
Guess i called at a bad time!

Hope all jobs on it turn out to be such fun!!!
