Cuore Avanzato

Hi there,

Hopefully I can answer some of your questions. I currently own two Avanzatos, one of them being daihatsus original press car.

In terms of the gearbox failure, I have experience with this issue. It was a total nightmare to find the actual replacement gearbox but in the end I sourced one using breakeryard.com from a Mira Classic which cost

Gearbox

no, mines the silver R reg press car .

im not too knowledgeable on the gearbox side of things but what happened with mine i believe is that some of the bearings went in the front diff which then led to the bevel gear not linking in properly with the other parts. This meant that the teeth became stripped and a horrible grinding noise came with it which did not sound pleasant.

Apparently the bearings used in the gearbox are common bearings so a rebuild should not be too difficult provided you catch it early enough.

It may be a case of getting it rebuilt anyway for the peice of mind so to speak. Also, its always a good idea to buy spares if/when you see them.

As stated above , if the

As stated above , if the gearbox oil is changed every 3,000 miles there is not normally a problem with the transfer box. I ran mine for nearly 80,000 miles and the only problem I had (apart from a speed sensor pin which put the car in safe mode) was the clutch centre plate holing, a very, very unusual fault which was investigated by Daihatsu.

There were, as far as I remember, 86 L512S cars imported for road use by DUK, and a further 19 for rallying, which they did famously well in against cars such as Subaru! The upgraded ECU produced amazing performance figures.

The road cars were mainly silver in colour, but there were a couple of red ones and a black, automatic one owned by the then MD of Daihatsu UK. I think he pranged it!

I persume its the white one

I persume its the white one currently on ebay? That is a very nice car with a good history. Like Gary said KKITP is the best forum about these little cars on the net. Come and have a read..

Avanzato gearbox

I can tell you first hand the problem which occurs with the g/boxes I bought my avanzato and it developed an occasional banging from the front wheels, being a techy thought at first it was a driveshaft problem. But on inspection found to be g/box int problem. So removed the eng and g/box stripped down and found diff carrier bearing partially calapsed. If it totally colapses and ballraces get free it will destroy the crownwheel and pinions because cannot drop in the bottom of the g/box.Changed bearings for a modified type rebuilt all now ok.Repair was done approx 6 years ago.If the eng and box wasnt a big job to remove, gearbox relatively easy to do.Hope this helps Mick49

rebuild

In relation to the g/box repair i did all the work myself including eng and box removal, and total strip and renew g/box bearings. Its the labour which would be the main cost, the bearings was
