NIGHTMARE MOT result...

Forum:

Car is at Daihatsu Bristol.
The rear offside wheel is basically only being held on by the split pin! Shok
The stub axle end (not sure if my terminology is correct) has lost all its thread and the wheel nut cannot be fitted.
I obviously didn't know about this and it must be since before I bought the car.
They are trying to find some option for me, but if I have to replace the rear axle it is going to cost well over

If you want I can send a text

If you want I can send a text to Dave if you haven't had a reply from E-mail yet?

G Have emailed you

G Have emailed you matey.

Further to that email...ive just been outside for a look on the ease of getting the beam off and it looks like the right side wheel leans in a bit. Remember this car had a rear side impact....thinking the axle shaft is bent. Will have another look in the light tomorrow Sad

He's Replied

Hope you get this sorted. If Dave's axle is bent then I would have presumed that one off another YRV would suffice. Plenty of YRVs being scrapped (Non-Turbo) being scrapped for parts on E-bay Smile
Hope you get it sorted.

some options...

Thanks for the email Dave, I have replied...
Interesting point you said is that a mobile engineer/mechanic might be able to re-thread the end.

I know its a longshot to ask, but does anyone know a trusted mobile engineer in Bristol that could do the job? I have a found a few through internet, but would prefer one that is recommended...

Bob, yes its a single long axle from wheel to wheel and the guy mentioned that an older Sirion was the only other car to come through his workshop with a similar issue.

Thanks for all the other replies here, hope I can save some money (looking better than the

So what I have to do is...

Dave - I need to buy those bearings from u asap please... have emailed u...

There are no mobile mechs that I could find to do re-threading on the car, so will go with a replacement of rear axle assembly.
I am going to have to buy a second hand one, with shoes and drums from a breaker, just finding the best price/condition now. Looking like around

Back happy... but poor

So I received the car back a few days ago. All sorted after a few hassles...

All in all:

Full service including full synth oil and brake fluid changes
Adjustment of exhaust fittings (was vibrating against bodywork)
Complete removal and refit of rear axle, bearings, drums etc.
MOT

Total cost at Daihatsu (incl MOT) - £400
Total cost for breakers parts & bearings from Dave - £215

So it was a fairly expensive month for the YRV. I had also just replaced all 4 tyres and done alignment for £175.

Car is definitely lighter on fuel.
Extreme improvement in general road feel, which is from new wider tyres as well.

Have a question though - would all the work on the rear axle have affected the alignment? Don't want the new tyres to be worn unevenly...
