Help on Sportrak engine change

Forum:

Hi Peeps

I need some help with a project on my Sportrak I have just done an engine swap on.

I have replaced a 1997 (P reg) 1.6cc 16v ELXi engine for the same, I have 2 problems with it and would like some advise.

Problem 1

There is a wiring connection I cannot see where it goes (after taking it off the old lump and forgetting), it is on the loom around the injectors and is a brass square bolt on connector with 3 brown wires crimped on to it, it is around 3 to 4 inches from the first injector connector (near'st the gearbox end). When the ignition is on it has 12v coming out of it, I am also not getting a spark out of the coil when turning it over if that helps??

Problem 2

The Distributor is different on the new engine, the old one has the marking 44 on it and has a gray connector and the new one that came with the new recon lump has a mark of 22 and has a green connector and also what I can only think would be some sort of vacuum connections on it. The old dizzy will not fit in the new engine and the new one has the different loom connection on
My question is what is the best thing to do, cut the connector off the old dizzy and put it on the new, do I need to connect the vacuum pipes for this dizzy to work??

I have just ordered a CD manual off eBay but as ever I am frustrated I forgot where the wire goes, so any help would be great as I wana go play in mud again!!

thanks

Ben

any1 got any ideas on the cable?

1st issue sounds like a

1st issue sounds like a earthing point but take care as its showing live, how to explain-it may show live+ but that could just be as a result of not being connected to earth ie its getting a live feed through some item or another so test very carefully, normally just see wher it reaches as far as the lenght of loom concerned should become obvious once you look properly, 2nd the dizzy will work with or without the vacume but should be connected if its fitted. hope thats some help, kirk.
