2.0 sportrak!

Forum:

hi, first post so sorry if its in the wrong place!

i have an early sportrak on a carb which a couple weeks ago i spent days and nights welding up for an m.o.t, got it through and quite literally on the way home the engine went bang.. anyway i have an old 2.0 petrol fourtrak out behind a shed and just wondered if it was realistic that the engine would go in. the fueling, ignition side i think would be alright as both carbed, its just the engine bolting to the box and the shaft being the same thats puzzling me also the engine mounts, im fairly sure the diesel ones dont fit. i have looked and looked and i cant find anyone thats done a 2.0 conversion before which is quite suprising, would cirtainly sort out the power issue with the 1.6.

any help would be great.. thank you for reading

You probably could fit it if

You probably could fit it if you use the 4rak gearbox as well. The Sporti is a totally diffrent running gear. You would still have to manufacture props and mounts though. Personally I would just get a low milage second hand injected lump. Bolt it straight in. A bit of wiering work for the CPU and away you go. And the injected cars are noticably more full of umph than the carbi's, without upsetting the insurance man too much. I've had a carb Sporti in the past, and now have an Injection. Deffinatly got more go. And in fact more go than the Petrol SWB 4trak I used to have as well. A Heavier car I know, but not that much. My Injection Sporti cruses at 80. The carbed one barly managed to push that high. And the only time I got 80 out of my 4 trak I needed a week of valium to get over the experience...

yeh think the work it would

yeh think the work it would require its just not worth the hasstle, a replacemnt standard engine is realistic, iv read on this site somewhere that all the sportraks were injection and then swaped to carbs when imported? if so is the extra wiring id need for the injection already there? and the basic engine of the injected and carb engines are the same, so any engine will fit injected or not. thanks

From memory all Sporti's were

From memory all Sporti's were Injection. The early UK ones were converted to carb to keep them in a lower insurance bracket. The engin managment electronics would have been striped out compleatly. However the engin is the same except for the fule delivery system.
