RAGTOP 4 TRAK

Forum:

Hi Folks :o)Having now had B16 4 TRK ( cracking reg No eh! ) for almost a year now, I want to make it a bit different like I did to my last one. On ebay at the moment,is a really nice looking pick up in army green. Much as I love it, it isnt really the most practical,as you can only carry yourself and a passenger..so a tad selfish..esp as my other toy has only 2 wheels ! so I got to thinking about how difficult it would be to turn mine into a ragtop Unknw I know that the rear section can come off,and of course the rear roll cage is already in place ( I believe that ALL fourtraks were originally made as ragtops, but the ones destined for these shores had the hard top fitted..is this true?) anyway..removing the rear section would be the first move..then I,m led to believe that all I would need to do is replace the rear door with a sportrak one ?Then the main problem would be getting a canvas type top made to fit..but having had a couple of wee suzuki jeeps in the past..it would just need to be a larger version of the soft top made for these. If its all as easy as this..why havent more folks done it ?? Any views would be much appreciated. Leave a reply on here..or email me direct eval(unescape('%64%6f%63%75%6d%65%6e%74%2e%77%72%69%74%65%28%27%3c%61%20%68%72%65%66%3d%22%6d%61%69%6c%74%6f%3a%63%6f%6c%69%6e%40%73%63%72%65%61%6d%69%6e%6b%69%77%69%2e%63%6f%6d%22%3e%63%6f%6c%69%6e%40%73%63%72%65%61%6d%69%6e%6b%69%77%69%2e%63%6f%6d%3c%2f%61%3e%27%29%3b')) Cheers ps..I guess if its do.able and theres more than just me wanting a ragtop, the price of making a hood could perhaps come down also ! I,m a typical jock :o)

They originally came as pick

They originally came as pick ups, and the body was fitted in the Uk by the dealers, later ones came as fully manufactured vehicles.

You can remove the back and you will need to make a tubular frame to hold the top, and fix location points. Once done you can get a top made, or make one yourself from tent canvas.

Thanks assasin..any ideas on

Thanks assasin..any ideas on how to remove the back Unknw Dont quite think i,d be up to making a top myself..it would end up looking like something from the Flintstones !! I was thinking of a top very similar to a Suzuki SJ,which slides into a channel which runs up each side of the pillar behind the front doors..then has poppers along the side of the body, and unklike the little Suzukis, the 4 trak would have a solid roof on the cab. The main problem is the removal of the existing top, I havent removed any roof linig or anything,as I wont be doing this until the spring, and also,as I use it every day,and at weekends,to pull my trailer to shows..cant afford to be without it in a useable state.Also..the rear door i,m assuming would just be a straight swap with a sportrak one Unknw Any more help would be greatly recieved !!

My 4 trak is ALMOST as much fun as my bike !

They all came as pick up's

They all came as pick up's which meant the cab had a steel roof.

You will need to find pictures of the originals and see how and what metal or plastic you want to remove to form your soft top, and you do not need to fill in the back of the cab with steel if you do not want to.

Ragtop

Cheers Assassin :o)Yep..I.m not going to seal the back of the cab as I would do if it was going to be a pick.up. I want to more or less have it the same as a Suzuki Jeep,so that most of the time i,ll have the back seats in place, but am also going to have either a solid alloy cover made for the back if the seats arent in, or even a tonneau cover, which means it can either be used as a pick up, or a 5/7 seater ragtop.I,ll need to have a roll bar made up which will sit just behind the front seats, and perhaps a couple of crossbars running back to the rear existing roll bar. I,ve spoken to Monsoon, who do tops for suzukis etc, but they want aroung £800 + vat to do a one off ! sod that ! I,m a tight scotsman !!So once its back from Atkinson Autos having the rear crossmember replaced..i,ll see what I can have done by a guy I know who does awnings..watch this space :o)
