Forum:
I had a feeling she was using a little coolant. Noticed some liquid sat on the black chassis beneath the pulleys earlier, a quick blot with some tissue confirmed it was indeed red coolant. ARGHHHH!!! I am sure it's the pump as as far as I know there are no other coolant lines that side of the engine. Daihatsu Dave, expect a sale shortly, I see you have one for sale on Ebay. BUT, I think it will be a pain of a job. Does anyone know if it is possible to change it just from accessing the top of the engine? Jon, I know it took your mechanic a fair time but that was including the radiator too?
Oh No!
Hi Wayne,
Not what you wanted
From the conversation with the garage and the mechanic a couple of things hindered the operation:
- You need small hands and thin wrists.
- A ramp of some sort to gain access from the bottom.
- Patience with the Serpentine belt
You could be looking at a good couple of hours work at least
On the good news front you may not need to change the gasket as the turbo engine already has a metal one. All they did for me was to clean this up and seal it.
Hope that helps?

I'll still be coming! It is
I'll still be coming! It is only leaking very slightly at the moment. As soon as I get the pump it will being going straight on, along with another coolant change of course
It's one thing after another. The thing's only done 27k and had a 92 year old owner before me so you would think nothing would go wrong.......................

I replaced ours as I too
I replaced ours as I too found out it was leaking when I did the fan belt fix. I agree you do need small hands and lots of different spanners and sockets to work in this area. But saying that still managed to do it ok. I think this is a fairly common issue from the forums, and the fact that the water pump is one of the only parts you can get for the yrv off ebay!
I assume you used a ramp or
I assume you used a ramp or something to access underneath? Doesn't look possible from top only access!!

No I didn't use ramps, but I
No I didn't use ramps, but I might have jacked it up a bit to reach the bottom bolt, I can't exactly remember as was over a year ago.
Mine was leaking from around the shaft seal, not the gasket to the engine block.
