Any news from those running unmodified fourtraks on veg oil?

Forum:

Hi all,

Just wondering if anyone running their unmodified fourtrak on veg oil svo/derv/rug mix has anything to report?

It would be useful to hear what blends you've run/tried and for how many miles? Any problems with coking/ring gumming, injector pump issues etc.?

I'm really interested in unmodified fourtraks without twin tanks/heat exchangers. I modified mine a couple of years ago (twin tank + fphe) but removed it when svo prices overtook diesel as unfortunately I have nowhere to filter used oil.

At the moment diesel is quite a few pence clear of svo so I'm thinking of running a blend until svo prices climb again which they inevitably will.

Also, has anyone tried using vegi-boost or biotane additives as discussed on the vegetableoildiesel.co.uk forum?

I'd really appreciate hearing people's experiences as opposed to starting yet another discussion on the topic. It seems it's been quite a while since anyone posted any updates on the forum.

Cheers,

Lube

Hi Lube

Had my 4trak for 3 days now, yesterday I filled up on 60/40 veg/derv and it runs as sweet as a nut, took it for a blast down the loacl bypass and it pulled like it did on 100% derv. Was a little bit lumpy in the morning, but oinly for about the first 100 yards or so, one trick I did learn is that in the morning cycle the glow plugs 2 or 3 times, this will get the swirl chamber nice and hot, and will make starting better.

Ive had alot of experience using Bio/SVO as my last truck was a Hilux Surf, during the summer months Id run it on 50/50 Bio/SVO, and in colder months 50/50 Bio/Derv. Never had any trouble with it, had to change the fuel filter after the first couple of tanks, and then at 3 monthly intervals.

Never had a twin tank system, never even considerd it, as Ive had nil problems doing it the way i do. Only thing I add is an injector cleaner once a year. Never used any cetane boosters or stuff like that.

Tesco are doing veg at £1 a litre at the mo, after that Il get it from a local cash n carry, £20.99 for 20L.

Hope this helps Lube.

Nothing to add, except that I

Nothing to add, except that I've been running my Fourtrak 50/50 veg on and off for years now. No problems other than fuel filters blocking up.

Any veiws expresed in this thread by me are purely from my own experience, and (sometimes) falible memory. Hope my comments help, but please don't take them as gospel.

I chuck veg oil in the filler

I chuck veg oil in the filler with diesal, get in and go, simples, theres a whole section on this forum for bio fuel if you look.

Full of ideas but no time to do them!!
