ive been thinking of selling for a while for something a bit more economical etc. i happened to see a yrv in the carpark of my doctors this morning and after chatting to the owner ,i think i may be smitten.

if i do go for one its gota be the yellow

here come the questions

how reliable are they
any common faults
are parts easily avaliable
how easy/ avaliable is it to get them mapped

theres a start anyway

Did you talk to someone from this forum?

Welcome to the forum...
I'm sure you will get a good opinion from Jpor, he has an Impreza Sti (53 plate I think) and a YRV Turbo and is probably the best person to advise on the comparison.

You will get a good idea of the YRV Turbo by just searching a bit through this forum. We have quite a few new owners as well, so a lot is being discussed at the moment on these threads about characteristics and typical things to look out for...

P.S. Yellow is the best colour! Smile

im based in nottingham so a bit far at the moment ,thanks for the invite though.

re the gear box how common a fault is it , i forked out £1100 for the box on my last impreza (im on no 13), cant stomach that again

It's one of those that no-one

It's one of those that no-one really has an answer for I'm afraid. The common issue is that when you first start the car and try to drive off the 'D' light will flash and keep you in 1st gear. It can be anything from a faulty sensor/Low battery Voltage etc... We have all learned that the gearbox oil should be changed every 6 years.

If you are pushing your scoob and your on the 13th clutch replacement then you must be given it some Wink

Oh just to give you a heads up the YRV Turbo has a 6 months service interval (Just like the classic Scooby had). Be careful that when someone advertises a Turbo with FSH and 6/7 stamps in the book that it has been serviced every 12 months.

Welcome!

Hello there.

And yes welcome to this quaint and friendly forum for all that is Daihatsu Smile

I'm too a scooby owner, currently have a Blob-eye Impreza STi-UK with the PPP upgrade and PPP lowered springs etc... pushing out 301BHP and 299fbt and I also frequent Scoobynet on occassion Smile

So to answer your questions;

They are a reliable car, it's japanese after all Wink

Common faults are: Anti-roll brackets can snap, Original Y shaped exhaust can rot.

Other faults owners have reported: Auto-box failure (depends who you speak to), Water pump failure(Age of the car)

Parts: Available from your friendly stealers who get them from IM (Same as Subaru). But you will pay a premium. Best bet is E-bay or forum member Daihatsu-Dave Wink
Unfortunately the YRV Turbo didn't sell in great numbers (210 imported by Daihatsu U.K), and there are slight differences in the type of parts we share with the standard YRV, brakes being one Sad

Now the last question mapping: This appears to be the achiles heal on these cars. I have owned mine for over 3 years and have tried a variety of places. Unichip claim they can do it, but my local fitter and tuners won't touch it as they have never done one before Sad Your options are something like a E-manage or a FCD and Boost Controller.
The closest someone has come to offer a remap is a place called big performnce based in Surrey, who said they could get it up-to 150BHP.

Hope that helps?

Jon.
