Sportrak pickup?

Forum:

Hi everyone! I'm new on here, I've been driving Daihatsu's for a long time now (I'm only 17) I've got a Daihatsu fourtrak indepndent Which I've been using on our farm for years.. brilliant motor!
But now I've just bought a Sportrak as my first car, but I'd like to covert it into a pickup, has anyone done this before? I was thinking about doing it with marine plywood or something similar..

Any advice?
Thanks
Luke

short answere is dont do

short answere is dont do it
you will have to tell your insurance company or they will run away if you try to make a claim.... they will probable load your premiums if theyre prepared to cover it at all.

Why would they though?

Surely it wouldn't make any difference as all I'm doing is taking the roof off the back and then boarding behind the seats.. it could easily go back to how it was

sportrak pick up

hi luke,
i pickup-ed my sportrak about a year and a half ago now by welding in a fourtrak back door.
looks and functions pretty well as it is obviously a bit curved like cars are rather than sheet metal or wood, plus i have wired in the fourtrak wiper/sprayer & de-mister.
basically,if you want to do it...
fourtrak back door
strip out wires, wiper motor etc and glass
cut of approx 10cm off the bottom of the door (roughly, can't remember)
cut off a section of the corners for the wheel arch's so you can make tabs to pop rivet/bolt to the wheel arch
cut into the door where it curves verticaly so it lies flat and then strengthen
offer it up to the car and weld the outside & bolt angle iron to the inside and bottom as nessercery with tek bolts.
once the R&L sides of the window are welded as much as possible i made a cardboard template of the areas and then made metal pieces to neaten it all up then filler around the top and sides then isoflex for the bottom.
plumb all the wiper and electrics in, and replace window (not very easy if the metal gets a bit bent/distorted when you weld it all up)
paint and it's pretty much done Smile

at the time it was a bit of a pain in the a** but i'm glad i did it. also don't bother if in some places your not prepared to improvise!

can upload some pics if someone tells me how lol
