Forum:
Please can anyone help, my terios has developed a problem where it will just cut out for no apparent reason? It has happened once at a roundabout where I thought possible stall but then yesterday when traveling at about 40mph, quite scary for the wife as the steering went heavy and the brakes also, fortunately she quickly bump started it so no accident. Has this cutting out hapened to anyone else? could anyone point me to a possible reason?
The car is a Terios + se I think from 2000.
Any help would be great.
Thanks

Has the car been well
Has the car been well serviced, i.e. clean air filter, are spark plugs OK etc? What is the fuel consumption like at the moment and does it still pull ok? Has the engine management light come on during driving at all? It could be a number of things including the Idle Control Valve. I assume this is an intermittent fault at the moment? Sorry for the questions...............

servicing
I dont know the cars history really, I was planning on giving it a service to see if that cures it. It does seem a bit down on power having driven it today.
No lights coming on, temperature stays stable. It has done it twice so far. What should fuel consumption be on these?
Is it a straight forward servicing job on these? is there more than one fuel filter?
Any pointers welcome.
Thanks
Easy to service. Use a decent
Easy to service.
Use a decent Fully Systhetic Oil
Oil Filter is easy to get to at the front of the car
I would get an air filter from ebay: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/DAIHATSU-YRV-1-3-01-01-Air-Filter-/260567633176?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item3cab0a8d18
Spark Plugs are easy to do, 10mm nut to get the coil off of each plug then remove plug as normal.
Not sure where fuel filter is to be honest, someone will help you out.
BRAKES!!! Front Calipers need regular attention. Strip down the brakes and wire brush/clean everything, especially the slide pins. If the rubbers are worn, obtain replacements, same with the slide pins. If the top pin with the rubber sleeve on the end of it has a damaged rubber sleeve, replace it! I replaced both pins only to realise the rubber sleeve is a separate part and does not come with the pins! Inspect the piston rubber too for damage/dirt moisture ingress. It's the pins that need the most attention in my opinion. DO NOT USE Copper Grease!!! Use Mintex Cera Tec Grease: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/MINTEX-CERATEC-CERA-TEC-ANTI-BRAKE-SQUEAL-LUBRICANT-/290489579332?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item43a2873744#ht_1766wt_908 on the pins. I used it on everything.
Drive Belt. There's another story. If it's not perished or noisy leave it!! There has been many a dispute as to which size to use. Come back to us if you need further advice...............
