Forum:
My F55 is requiring an engine transplant. The present engine is a DG diesel and these are extinct it seems here in NZ.I'm sure I remember reading somewhere and it may have been on this site that a DL of which there are still some around is merely a bored out DG.If so this would suggest a DL engine would readily bolt onto the bellhousing gearbox and onto the existing engine mounts. Any suggestions or comments would be greatly appreciated.
I personally haven't done it
I personally haven't done it but I have seen a number of F50 and F20 that have had the 2.8td from a Rocky put into them. As far as I can tell it is a relatively straight forward swap, I am told the gear box will bolt up and I think the engine mounts are the same. I think the main diffuclty is fitting things like the intercooler under the bonnent. Because you have the extra length in F55 it may be worth swapping the engine and gearbox from a Rocky in as then you would get the 5 speed box (if you don't already have it). There are a few on daihatsu4x4.eu that have done the conversion, it is a Dutch site but most speak good English and google translate works reasonably well on it.
