hi, i have a 1994 mira 849 cc manual petrol and have problems starting when its warm(the car not the weather!) its starts brilliantly when its cold, but as soon as i make a few stop and starts it gets harder to start and smells strongly of petrol! Any suggestions would be much appreciated, jo

Sounds like the fuel pump to me. Can you check this for leaks? I know this used to happen to owners of car who had upgraded the fuel pump but it leaked. Just depends where your fuel pump is situated.

Overly rich mixture, On cold
Overly rich mixture,
On cold start it needs to be rich, this is why it starts fine cold.
When warm, if you are smelling petrol and its hard starting, then its too rich and then flooding the spark plugs.
Could be a few things causing it.
When trying to start it warm, try turning the key with the throttle half pressed down. If it jumps into life much easier then it will help me find the exact cause.
