Lidl stunning value Bluetooth/MP3 Stereos back on special Thursday

Forum:

Lidl have their super special again this Thursday on a Bluetooth/MP3/CD Stereo head unit.

They really are feature packed and sound great and for just £39.99 you cannot go wrong! Equivilant stereos with all these features are well over £100.

They tend to sell out pretty fast so don't delay!

Connect your bluetooth phone and can hear calls via car speakers, and has microphone for hands free talking, Can also play music from phone wireless via bluetooth, or plug in a USB flash stick or up to 8GB SD card to play MP3's.

I know the clarion stereos Daihatsu fitted to many cars are pretty poor.

Also Aldi often do a similar offer, and they sometimes do them in Silver colour which can match the Sirion centre console.

Not available at all Lidls

This Lidl special is in a limited geographic region - it's not available in North Shropshire.

I agree they are good value, however the Aldi one I recently purchased has no way of dimming the very bright blue back lights when the unit is in operation. I am able to dim the lights when the unit is off, via the dashboard light level controller. They are so bright I need to cover the facia with paper!

Yes, There is a hack for this

Yes, There is a hack for this problem that is not in the instuctions, I will look it up for you.

Find the wire labelled

Find the wire labelled 'lights' .
it may be white. anyhow the wire colour codes are labelled on top of the radio case.

cut this wire about 10cm from the harness connector. strip the two ends.
find a 1K Ohm resistor and connect it to the two bared ends.

When you turn the sidelights on the display will dim drastically.

If it is too dim then experiment with 330 Ohm, 270 Ohm , 220 Ohm resistors.
Or consider fitting a 2K2 potentiometer to the dashboard.
Simply connect to the centre lug of the potentiometer and one of the outside lugs instead of a resistor.

Pretty sure there is also a key combination to do the though, just trying to find it, I read it once on google but can't find it now!

Thanks, but already tried this..... ;-)

I already tried this, using a pot, and it works great when the stereo is switched off - i.e. if the stereo is switched off, and the car lights are on, the display is nice and dim, how I want it.

If however I switch the unit on, it puts all the backlights on to max - far to bright.

I think it needs a software hack Wink

Very easy solution

Very easy solution then....apply some tint film (such as window tint film) to the display panel!

I'm sure you can buy sheets very cheap on ebay, with different shades of tint available.

Great minds think

Great minds think alike.....

However putting the tint on the illuminated buttons and rotary knob may be difficult. I was thinking of getting a piece of rigid smoke glass (plastic) which could be hinged and folded down.....

At the moment I just don't have the stereo on whilst driving in the dark - not really an issue in the summertime, but will be in the winter!
