Sirion 1.0 4wd ´99 fuel filter access.

Forum:

I'm working on my MIL's Sirion. It's running rough and everything points to the fuel filter.

I gather the filter is in the tank since I can't see a filter anywhere between the fueltank and fuelrail.

I don't see any access panel above the fuel tank. I removed the rear seat and all I saw was asphalt insulation and wiring.

Is there an access panel under the asphalt insulation or do I need to get the tank from underneath the car to get to the pump-filter assembly?

Yeah the filter is part of

Yeah the filter is part of the pump assembly and think its tank off for access.
It should last a lifetime unless somethings got in there? If you think its fuel related then change the whole pump for a second hand one...plenty of them about.

I have a dealership service sheet that points out bad running in some Sirion and YRV. Simple cure is to reset the ECU.

Battery Negative off for a few minutes.
Start engine without pressing the accelerator peddle.
Let it idle until the engine fully warms up.
Switch off.
Done.

The reason I suspected the

The reason I suspected the fuel filter is because the accelerator is very sensitive to input, step too far and the engine bogs down. I only found out two days ago that my SIL found the fuel cap on top of the car at the beginning of August (Fuel door is missing so cap is unlocked.).

They first wrote it off as some drunk was being an ass since no gas was stolen. I on the other hand think that some one might have put dirt in the filler neck or maybe even pissed in the fuel tank.

My MIL also left the car in her driveway with an almost empty tank last winter. It stood for 2 months with large temperature swings, ideal rusting conditions.

Also the sparkplugs are white-ish, a sign of a lean fuel mixture.

I'll try resetting the ECU. I hope that solves it.

Do the 1.0 FWD, 1.0 4WD and the 1.3 all have the same fuel pump assembly?

Is there anyway to open up the fuel pump asssembly or is it sealed and non-servicable? I am a mechanical engineering journeyman and have access to all the o-rings and filter media I might need.

The fine fuel filter is on

The fine fuel filter is on the inlet of the fuel rail, this is the one that clogs. Tank filter on the pump inlet is for large debris only.

On my Sirion rally, I got so

On my Sirion rally, I got so fed up of the check engine light coming on every few days (and the dealer could never find anything to fix),

So i changed the ECU wiring so that the power supply to it was 100% off when ignition off, so no permanent live feed to ECU.

Never saw the check engine light again!
