Sirion 1300 using oil?

Forum:

Hi there to all on the forum.
I have recently bought a 2002 Sirion 1300 which happens to be my first Daihatsu. It's a lovely car.

It did have a little sporadic problem with the engine running too fast but it was cured at the garage by cleaning the sticky carburetor.

I thought that this may also cure the black sooty deposits at the end of my exhaust and on the rear bumper. However they still remain.

Anyway to get to my problem.
I decided to go on holiday in my Sirion, we covered 670 miles without a glitch. I was just about to do another long journey so I thought that I'd check the oil and to my surprise the engine was almost empty! The oil bearly made it onto the dip stick although before my holiday it was full, (the car was parked on a level drive and the engine was cold when I checked the oil).

There are no leaks from the engine and the exhaust smoke is always clean with no pungent smells, the car only has 49,000 miles on the clock.

Does anybody have ideas what the problem might be? I'm confused!

Many thanks to you all.
