My Sirion Rally IV has done 120,000 miles now. I get a small puff of smoke on high RPM gearchanges. Let's say the engine is on its way out but I want to keep my car. Does it have a K3-VE engine? What else of larger capacity uses the same block?
What would be a neat engine swap to give a big dollop more torque? Is there something 1600cc+ around which will fit the gearbox?
Thoughts please
I just upgraded my 1968 Toyota Corona from 1500cc to 2000cc 20 years younger
The Sirion Rally engine is
The Sirion Rally engine is the K3-VE2, Identical to the K3-VE2 from the EL and SL 1.3 Sirion, only difference is the rally has a higher lift exhaust camshaft fitted.
A straight easy swap would be to fit a good engine from the EL or SL, you will only be down 6bhp. And you could even swap the exhaust camshaft over.
The YRV Turbo K3-VET (130bhp) should go in without too much effort, and mate up to the gearbox. You will also need the YRV engine wiring loom and ECU.
Clutch and gearbox strength may become a issue though.

Cheers guys. I was thinking more along the lines of larger capacity engine from another model Daihatsu / Toyota. I've also toyed with a 2WD Terios or Hijet engine driving the rear wheels. That would be interesting but it would mean fabricating a transmission tunnel and relocating the heater / AC. Lots of work but doable
