k reg fourtrak leaf springs all the way round

Forum:

hi, ive just sent my newly aquired fourtrak in for an MOT, however the brakes have been rather funny since i got it, when pressed the brake pedal kicks back... is this normal? also it was running on 50%veg oil (unused) and 50% diesel, is this ok? or should i run it on just diesel? im very new to dihatsu's so everythings strange to me! im sure i shall be asking lots of questions in the near future!!

regards.

Brakes not correct

In my experience 50/50 diesel/veg oil is fine, lumpy when cold, and I wouldn't run it on that in the winter. Carry a spare fuel filter with you - and know how to fit it!

The kick back from the brakes is not normal - I don't know what causes that. Maybe warped discs?

Did the MOT tester comment on the brakes?

I always run mine on 100% diesel for the MOT, and give it a good thrashing (max rpm for several miles) on the way to the MOT centre to clear our the engine/exhaust system of soot.

brakes outcome from mock MOT test.

hi, the mock MOT went ahead today, glad to say that all components were in good working order, the brakes however, the mechanic says he thinks its the drums on the back? and that the front discs may just need a clean off?? the kick back does not extend through to the steering though. all the usual things you would get going wrong on a discovery (like i had before) were all ok! i was most suprised, i think im converted! thank you for the great info on the fuel etc, this is most helpfull!
regards.

brakes.

hi thanks for reply,

i have just been to collect the truck, it seems as though i have to change the brake pipes also soon as they are corroded, other than that we have found out that the root cause of the pedal kick back is as what was said before by the other chap and that is that the discs are buckled.

we live in glenshee, cairngorm mountain range? great snow!

cheers.
